Norm Lewis - Bird Guide, Trip Leader & International Host |
For one of our youngest bird guides, Kirk Huffstater has been birding for over forty years and is one of our most experienced guides in Colorado. Kirk has lived in Colorado over the last twenty-five years and has worked as a guide and an engineer and then later started his own small business. Kirk began birding earnestly in northern New York when he was a teenager. He continued birding through college on the east coast and in California where he finished a Masters in Engineering at the University of California Berkley. He has been birding in Colorado since moving here twenty-five years ago. He has been the leader on numerous local trips with Denver Field Ornithologists and Colorado Field Ornithologists. He has published a number of articles on Colorado birding. Kirk has co-lead trips with two PIB partners, John Drummond and Charles Thornton-Kolbe. We both thought of Kirk Huffstater when seeking to replace the bird finding talent of Mike Flieg. Kirk brings his good cheer and enthusiasm for birding to the trip. He has excellent field skills, and he will help everyone on the trip get good looks at all bird specialties of the trip and other wonderful Colorado birds. Besides birding, Kirk is a well-rounded naturalist, and he is prepared to share his expertise in mammals, plants, butterflies and dragonflies. Kirk’s enthusiasm for birding and nature has also been shared with his two children, who are both students at Cornell. His youngest son is starting work at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Please consider one of our Colorado Grouse trips with Kirk as a trip leader. You will find his field skills and love of natural history will set a foundation for learning more about Colorado’s birds and nature. |
"Kirk's excellent field skills and ability to help others find birds will assure everyone gets good looks at all thirteen Colorado early spring birds." |
