Extensions to Consider:  Extensions are likely to other
Atlantic Forest locations, including Regua Reserve and/or
Serro dos Orgaoes (and surrounding area to north) based
upon group interest. Please let us know if you are
interested in a longer visit to the Atlantic Forest area or in
birding in other Brazil locations.
Brief Itinerary
Trip Description
This is an exceptional birding value trip including 10 nights
and 11 days birding in Brazil's Atlantic Forest. This trip is
designed for the birders who want to expand their life list
extensively and who want a cost-effective trip. Over this
eleven day trip, you will visit many of the key birding sites in
the Atlantic Forest, including Itatiaia National Park and Uba
Tuba.
  • Most trips find 95 of the 104 Atlantic Forest specialties,
adding a number of new bird species to the list of most
South American birders. We anticipate trip participants
will see 260 to 280 species.
  • Special birds include Black-fronted Piping-Guan,
    Frilled Coquette, Black-breasted Plovercrest, Three-
    toed Jacamar, Saffron Toucanet, Yellow-fronted
    Woodpecker, Black-billed Scythebill, Araucaria Tit-
    Spinetail, White-bearded Antshrike, Salvadori's
    Antwren, Black-hooded Antwren, Rufous-tailed
    (Brazilian) Antthrush, Black-cheeked Gnateater, Slaty
    Bristlefront, Fork-tailed Tody-Tyrant, Black-and-gold
    Cotinga, Hooded Berryeater, Bare-throated Bellbird,
    Buff-throated Purpletuft, Black-capped Piprites, Brassy-
breasted Tanager, Gilt-edged Tanager and another
    70 Atlantic Forest specialties.
  • More site and bird species details are on the detailed
itinerary (see link in the green bar below). Please
request a trip report if you would like more information.
  • Several local hotels cater to bird watchers to make the
trip affordable and productive for birding. Each night,
we will enjoy fantastic bird feeders and/or have
    numerous birding routes nearby.
  • Most trips include another 2 to 4 days at Serra dos
Orgáos National Park and sites nearby, and/or
including several days at Regua reserve. These
extensions usually add another 20 to 40 species and
another 6 to 10 Atlantic Forest specialties.
  • Our guides include Lelis Navarrete (widely regarded as
the best bird guide in South America) and Bruno Lima
(an experienced Atlantic Forest ornithologist who is
well known and regarded highly in the area).
  • We offer several Atlantic Forest trips each year and
throughout the year. Custom trips can be taken at any
time, but the crowds (and prices) explode during the
Carnival and holiday season from December to March
(and sometimes into April in some later season
    Carnival years).

Please contact us to get trip reports to get a good idea of the
bird species you will see based upon our past experiences.
